50 coaching applications – Helge Hohl explains the run of success this way

Four games, four wins: Things are currently going perfectly for interim coach Helge Hohl at Alemannia Aachen. Whether he remains head coach, meanwhile, is still completely open.

Suddenly third! Alemannia Aachen is on the rise in the Regionalliga West.

Since Fuat Kilic’s leave of absence, sports director Helge Hohl has taken over the coaching job and is delivering. Three games in the Regionalliga, three victories, one game in the Mittelrhein Cup against his ex-club Bergisch Gladbach and one progression – that makes four competitive games, four victories. A flawless record.

“All of this is a snapshot. We will continue to work hard and not go crazy now,” Hohl told RevierSport with understatement.

Yet the 31-year-old did not have an easy start. Kilic was extremely popular with the team, but he still had to leave. “That made my situation more difficult and not easier. But I tried to quickly find an approach to the boys and also made some changes,” says Hohl.

Of course, I also enjoy my job as sports director. Of course, in the current situation the coaching job is also a lot of fun. Where I see myself in the future will be seen in the coming weeks and months. By hook or by crook, I don’t have to be a coach or sports director. We will make a decision for the good of the team and the club.

Under him, players like Aldin Dervisevic or Frederic Baum, who were on the sidelines with Kilic, are an issue again. Both are repaying the trust placed in them with good performances.

“We try to go for it earlier, attack the opponent, find footballing solutions. Those are the things we have worked on and changed,” Hohl reveals.

Alemannia Aachen received more than 50 applications for Kilic’s coaching position after his dismissal. “From everywhere: from abroad, from former third league coaches or coaches who are well-known in the regional league. At the moment, however, we are only holding loose talks and are concentrating on our next tasks,” says Hohl.

For it is not out of the question that Alemannia will not sign a new coach at all. And why should they? The sports director delivers as coach. Hohl: “Of course I also enjoy my job as sports director. Of course, in the current situation the coaching job is also a lot of fun. Where I see myself in the future will be seen in the coming weeks and months. By hook or by crook, I don’t have to be a coach or sports director. We will make a decision for the good of the team and the club.”

Next Saturday is the top match at the Tivoli. SV Rödinghausen, second in the table, will be guests at Alemannia, third in the league. “The table has the danger of being dazzling. There are only a few points separating us from the midfield of the league. But clearly. We want to stay up there, establish ourselves and score in the next top games against Rödinghausen and Schalke II,” emphasises Aachen’s successful coach Hohl.
