Third division football club Rot-Weiss Essen had to settle for a 1-1 draw against FSV Zwickau. Isaiah Young could therefore not be completely satisfied.

Isaiah Young was trained as a winger. The winger from Rot-Weiss Essen can play offensively on the right as well as on the left. Last season, the US boy was even ordered to play in the centre of attack by former coach Christian Neidhart – against Wuppertaler SV (2:1) – because of his speed.

In the third-division home match against FSV Zwickau, Young then played in the last remaining attacking position in the 4-2-3-1 system – on ten. Ron Berlinski was up front.

“I do what the coach says. Offensively, I can play anywhere, whether on the outside, up front or on the ten. The opponent worked a lot with long balls and I had a lot of space in the centre. You could see that. With my speed, it worked well. I moved well without the ball, that was fine,” the 24-year-old explained afterwards.

The Essen attacker was a constant source of trouble and caused problems for the Zwickau back line with his speed dribbling. He could often only be stopped by a foul. However, he was denied his third goal of the season because RWE lacked the necessary consistency in the final third and the visitors defended robustly.

We want to win every game. I’m not happy with the result, but we can be happy with the team’s performance. We gave everything. In my opinion, we were the better team and had the better scoring chances.

Surely the red and whites had expected more than a draw against the third last. Young also had mixed feelings after the final whistle: “We want to win every game. Unfortunately, we didn’t win.”

In contrast to the first games of the season, Young already sees a clear development within the team. The 24-year-old also explains why: “Our mentality after conceding the early goal was really, really good. In the first game against Elversberg, our heads were down immediately after the 0:1 and we had no more confidence. Now you can see the difference in our team.”

Head coach Christoph Dabrowski’s men still have three league games on the schedule before the winter break, plus the Niederrheinpokal quarter-final at Wuppertaler SV. In these games, Young and Co. would like to continue the positive trend.
