Dickson Abiama is now a player for Rot-Weiss Essen. RWE beat out TSV 1860 Munich for his signature. Abiama previously played for 1860 under Patrick Glöckner.
Patrick Glöckner is the person to ask if you want to learn more about Dickson Abiama. That’s because the coach worked with the 27-year-old attacking player between January and June 2025. About a year ago, Abiama was loaned from 1. FC Kaiserslautern to TSV 1860 Munich, and in February 2026, he moved to Rot-Weiss Essen.
Under Glöckner, Abiama played in 15 games (scoring two goals and providing four assists) and quickly became a fan favorite at Grünwalder Straße.
“Rot-Weiss Essen is getting an absolute model professional and role model. Dickson fits in incredibly well with the team and in the locker room. He’s so well-mannered—it’s amazing. He always looks you in the eye when talking, thanks you warmly, and is just a positive guy. You enjoy spending time with someone like that. He has the potential to become a fan favorite,” Glöckner, who had a really good coach-player relationship with Abiama, gushes to Forecasting.
From a soccer perspective, the 49-year-old coach is also full of praise for the RWE newcomer: “He can play on both wings, but also as a false 9. Dickson personally prefers to play on the left wing. As a coach, I liked to deploy him behind the strikers because, as a free spirit, he’s at his strongest there for me. He does things that neither the opponent nor even his own coach expects. He also creates space for the team and sets up good scoring opportunities. His work rate is enormous. That applies both to his speed and his ability to cover a lot of ground. He can really cover a lot of ground. For an offensive player, he’s very solid defensively. I do believe he’s a great fit for Uwe Koschinat’s style of soccer. Dickson is perfectly suited for a pressing game and for disrupting the build-up of a two- or three-man center-back setup.”
When Abiama left 1860 to return to Kaiserslautern in the summer of 2025, Glöckner also had to leave a few weeks later. At the end of August, the Bonn native was relieved of his duties after three wins, two draws, and three losses. At that point, 1860 was just three points behind a promotion spot; currently, they are seven points behind third place, which would mean a relegation playoff.
Glöckner parted ways with the Lions with a strong points average of 1.71 points per game. At this time, he does not wish to comment on his departure from 1860.

Personally, I’m constantly in touch with club officials. But that doesn’t mean we’re always talking about a job. Still, things could start up again for me. You always have to be ready for a new assignment,” says Glöckner, describing his current situation.
He adds: “I’m open to many things. But to ultimately take on a new challenge, I need to have a very good feeling about the club officials. Of course, that should ultimately be mutual. That’s the only way to work together effectively.”
The former coach of FC Viktoria Köln, Chemnitzer FC, Waldhof Mannheim, Hansa Rostock, and 1860 Munich is, of course, following the action in the 3rd League with great interest.
Regarding the promotion race, Glöckner says: “I do believe that the teams ranked between first and tenth still have a chance to move up. Every team has a different approach and strategy. In the end, the teams that will succeed are the ones with the best squad availability—meaning they have few injured players.
