Disillusionment instead of euphoria: Hamburger SV has conceded its next defeat in the fight for promotion. Pursuer Heidenheim exerts pressure. Rostock earn a point on coach Glöckner’s debut
Hamburger SV have missed out on the top spot in the table and their rivals are waiting in the wings: disillusionment has set in at the end of the year in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Wednesday, the team of coach Tim Walter conceded its fifth defeat of the season with a 0:1 (0:1) at SpVgg Greuther Fürth after two wins in a row. Although HSV remain in second place after the 16th matchday, 1. FC Heidenheim, who are in the relegation places, reduced the gap to one point with a 4:3 (2:0) win at SV Sandhausen.
Hannover 96 are four points behind HSV in fourth place. Hannover already beat Fortuna Düsseldorf 2:0 on Tuesday. Nils Fröling secured a point for Hansa Rostock in the match against 1. FC Nürnberg on the debut of new coach Patrick Glöckner, who only took over from his predecessor Jens Härtel at the beginning of the week. Fröling scored in injury time (90.+1 minute) for Rostock to make the final score 1-1 (0:1). The visitors from Franconia, for whom Fabian Nürnberger (5th) was successful, could not leave the relegation zone. Jahn Regensburg and Eintracht Braunschweig drew 1-1 (1:1).
HSV got out of the rhythm. Instead, Fürth were jubilant, recording their third win in the third game under the direction of their new coach Alexander Zorniger. The early pressing of Fürth in the opponent’s half did not suit the visitors. U19 international Armindo Sieb scored the decisive goal as early as the 8th minute. HSV awaits SV Sandhausen in their next match to round off the first half of the season on Saturday (13:00).
Sandhausen played a turbulent match with Heidenheim, in which the visitors won somewhat happily in the end. Tim Siersbleben (31st), Tim Kleindienst (40th), Christian Kühlwetter (48th) and Kevin Sessa (73rd) scored for Heidenheim. Merveille Papela (50th), Christian Kinsombi (76th) and Alexander Esswein (80th) could only shorten the gap for Sandhausen. Thus, Heidenheim is once again vehemently involved in the fight for promotion.
Leaders Darmstadt 98 can pull away from their pursuers with a win at 1. FC Magdeburg on Thursday (8.30 pm) at the end of Matchday 16.
