Rot-Weiss Essen are currently in the international break. One outfield player has played every minute in the 3rd division so far.
Rot-Weiss Essen have celebrated five wins in a row in the 3rd division. The reward: third place. RWE is therefore still in the relegation places during the international break. In the 2-0 win over SV Waldhof Mannheim on Sunday afternoon, head coach Christoph Dabrowski played with the same starting eleven for the fourth time in a row.
José-Enrique Ríos Alonso, who scored his first goal of the season in this clash, and Felix Götze again formed the heart of Essen’s defense. Ríos Alonso is the perennial favorite of all the outfield players in the RWE squad anyway.
The 23-year-old has not missed a single minute of action in the 3rd division and has been on the pitch from the first to the last minute of all 15 matches. Only goalkeeper Jakob Golz can also boast 1350 minutes, but as an outfield player this statistic is even more special.
Even in the Lower Rhine Cup round of 16 at SV Straelen (4:0), when Dabrowski rested nine regular players, the central defender was in the starting eleven. He is only one of five outfield players in the league to have played in every game so far. The other players are Mael Corboz and Torge Paetow from SC Verl as well as Konrad Faber (SSV Jahn Regensburg) and Max Geschwill (SV Sandhausen).
This shows how important Ríos Alonso is for Rot-Weiss Essen and head coach Dabrowski. Born in Stuttgart, he has already played in central defense this season alongside Felix Bastians (now released and contract terminated), Mustafa Kourouma and Felix Götze. Currently, both Ríos Alonso and Götze are indispensable in the center of defense. Both defenders complement each other well with their style of play.
In addition to the 23-year-old German-Spanish international, five other RWE outfield players have also featured in the 15 league games: Cedric Harenbrock, Lucas Brumme, Torben Müsel, Marvin Obuz and Ron Berlinski.
