The Middle Rhine Cup offers a short route into the DFB Cup. The favorites are still in the running. These are the second-round opponents.
VfL 08 Vichttal has hit the jackpot in the Middle Rhine Cup. In the second round of the competition, the Middle Rhine league team will welcome defending champions and third division team Viktoria Cologne.
Fortuna Bonn plays even lower down the league. To be precise, the team from the old federal capital competes in the Landesliga Mittelrhein 1. Now, however, they get to dip their toes into the third division for at least 90 minutes, as they will be facing none other than Alemannia Aachen.
Things are looking tricky for Bonner SC, though. The regional league team is heading to FC Wegberg-Beeck. The Middle Rhine league team keeps popping up in the Regionalliga West and has big ambitions every year.
Sascha Glatzel, the former head coach of the promoted team from the Rhineland, just had to step down in Bonn. “Bonner SC has terminated its collaboration with head coach Sascha Glatzel with immediate effect. In view of the results of the past few weeks and the discernible trend, the board and the sporting management have decided to take this step,” the club wrote in a statement, leaving no doubt as to the reasons for the separation.
At least in the cup, things should continue to go well for Bonn. League rivals Fortuna Cologne will face A-Kreisliga side SV Scherpenseel-Grotenrath.
