KFC Uerdingen got the frustration off their chest on matchday 9 of the Oberliga Niederrhein, defeating SC Union Nettetal 6-0.
Exactly one week after the disgraceful 0:2 defeat at VfB Hilden, KFC Uerdingen showed a strong reaction. In front of 1873 spectators at the Grotenburg, KFC celebrated an outstanding 6-0 victory over SC Union Nettetal in the Oberliga Niederrhein.
Coach Marcus John was thrilled with the performance and particularly highlighted the difference in performance compared to the previous week: “It’s worlds apart. We played more freely and with greater ball security. The team did that well. The way the game went played into our hands. And then when we play soccer and get rolling, you see what we can do.”
Difference player Levan Kenya, who showed a great game, was also happy about the home win and revealed what happened during the week: “We play different soccer at home than away. We had a team meeting and clarified what we believe in and what soccer we want to play. And now we showed our soccer. You could see that we can actually do that.”
In the match against their table neighbors, Hinata Gonda in particular showed an impressive performance alongside Kenya and three-pointer Dimitrios Touratzidis.
“It was a risk to bring him in. He only trained with the team once after four weeks of injury. Nevertheless, I say, he is from the mobility and the dynamics a player who helps us directly. That’s why I brought him on and he repaid me with two goals,” John said of his protégé.
In addition to Kenya, John also saw the key to success in the meeting that took place during the week: “We said, let’s sit down and ask the team, in which system do you feel most comfortable? And that’s what the team suggested. What gives us security contributes to success, you could see that.”
Indeed, the defensive back four, with two flexible defensive midfielders, an attacking midfield of three strong dribblers and a top player worked flawlessly from the start.
To the chagrin of the opponent, who in the form of co-coach Lutz Krienen questioned the two penalty decisions for Uerdingen, but also knew which opponent they were losing to: “We had something different in mind in the first half. The early penalty pulled the plug on us. Once Uerdingen gets rolling, it’s hard to win, especially if you don’t defend in the box. We tried to limit the damage, but were then countered twice. In the end, it’s a deserved win for Uerdingen.”
While Uerdingen, who now jump to eighth place in the league with twelve points for the time being, have a cup clash against MSV Duisburg in the 2nd round of the Niederrheinpokal coming up during the week (Wednesday, October 11, 7:30 p.m.), for Nettetal it’s not until the next matchday of the Oberliga Niederrhein against SF Hamborn (Sunday, October 15, 3:15 p.m.).
