Wuppertaler SV had to cancel its home match against Fortuna Düsseldorf II a few hours before kick-off due to a wave of illness.
Wuppertaler SV had to cancel its match against Fortuna Düsseldorf U23 just a few hours before kick-off on matchday 30 of the Regionalliga West. The club made the announcement via its social media channels.
The ball was originally due to roll into the Stadion am Zoo on Saturday (April 20) from 2 pm. The reason for the cancellation was an accumulation of cases of illness at Bergische.
“Due to a wave of infections with a highly infectious gastrointestinal virus, it was unavoidable to cancel the match in order to protect the health and safety of all involved. The decision was made in consultation with Fortuna Düsseldorf to protect the players and officials of both teams and their families,” the club explained in its statement.
It continued: “We are working closely with the medical staff to monitor further developments. A make-up date will be announced as soon as possible.” Tickets that have already been purchased will remain valid for this date.
This means that April 20, 2024 cannot be the date of the return to the third division stage for Alemannia Aachen, who would have needed Wuppertal to slip up if they had won in Paderborn. The Kaiserstädter could now perhaps clinch promotion on the couch or against 1. FC Bocholt at home on the Tivoli next weekend
