Acar and Tokat in the stands – the search for a new coach at Uhlenkrug

ETB SW Essen scored again in game two under interim coach Björn Matzel. Here’s how the search for a new coach is going.

After parting ways with head coach Dennis Czayka and the subsequent 2-0 derby win against Adler Frintrop, ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen had to settle for a goalless draw at 1. FC Monheim.

However, given the good opportunities in the second half, more would have been possible for the Black and Whites under interim coach Björn Matzel.

“In the first 20 minutes, we had a hard time getting into the game and couldn’t get a foothold. We then made some changes and things went much better. In the second half, we played really well, but we also had a few moments where it was dangerous at the back. Monheim could have scored a goal there. Based on the second half, we definitely deserved three points. We should have made better use of our scoring chances and played the ball more cleanly in the final third. However, it must also be said that the pitch was very slippery and deep. But if we had played a little more cleanly, we would have gotten the three points. In these difficult conditions, however, you have to be satisfied with a point,” concluded Matzel.
Next Sunday (November 2), ETB will continue with a home game. At 3 p.m., Schwarz-Weiß will face VfB 03 Hilden at their home ground, Uhlenkrug. It is not yet clear who will be on the sidelines.

Most recently, Suat Tokat, who has worked for Essen in the past, and Sunay Acar (most recently 1. FC Bocholt, SV Straelen, and VfB Homberg) were interested spectators at ETB games. However, neither of them are being considered for Uhlenkrug, nor is Lars Fleischer. The former assistant coach of Rot-Weiss Essen’s professional team is said to have higher ambitions. ETB president Karl Weiß told Forecasting about the search for a coach: “Björn Matzel is doing very well and he will also be on the bench against Hilden. He should first see how he likes it. We can definitely imagine a permanent solution with Björn. In any case, we don’t have any external candidates. However, we will present a new head coach in the week before the Ratingen game.”
