Ahead of the test match highlight against Rot-Weiss Essen, anticipation is high at Adler Union Frintrop, even if the last results act as a mood killer.
For Adler Union Frintrop, the big highlight of the preparation is on the agenda in a few days. Next Wednesday (26 July, 7 p.m., RS-Liveticker), Rot-Weiss Essen will be the guests of their little neighbour, who managed promotion to the Oberliga Niederrhein in the summer.
“The game is of course a highlight that we are looking forward to. It’s not every week that you get the chance to play against the biggest club in town,” Frintrop coach Marcel Cornelißen is looking forward to the prominent guest from the 3rd division. “The boys will all be fired up and want to represent our team in the best possible way.”
It is also busy days around the team at Adler Union. “There is still hustle and bustle in the club, the organisation for a game like this is also not an everyday occurrence,” explains the head coach.
He is responsible for the performance of the players, from whom he demands: “Above all, I expect the boys to give their all. Of course, always fair, we want to have intense duels and maybe create one or two switching moments.”
Weak results at the MWB Cup
But Frintrop don’t want to just hide, the outsiders want to annoy RWE as much as possible. “It’s clear that we won’t win by a lot, but we at least want to be unpleasant. And the boys should enjoy it, of course,” says Cornelißen.
At the start of the preparation, the promoted team started with four wins from four test matches, but things have been less promising lately. “The last week was a real mood killer for us. The first two games at the MWB Cup were unbelievably bad for us,” said Cornelißen, looking back with dissatisfaction on the defeats against Landesliga team Blau-Weiß Mintard (1:4) and Mülheimer SV (2:3) from the Bezirksliga.
The duel with Rot-Weiss could now put them in a better mood again. “You could see how quickly the good mood was dispelled in three days. But you have to detach the RWE game from the preparation, of course that has no influence on it,” explains Marcel Cornelißen.
