The ambitious TuS Bövinghausen team failed to turn things around on matchday 15 of the Oberliga Westfalen against Sportfreunde Lotte and lost 5-0 (0-3) at home to the league leaders.
Bövinghausen head coach Baris Özbek was disillusioned after the game. “We are naturally very disappointed, even though we played against the leaders. We wanted to make a statement at home, but that wasn’t possible. We simply allowed ourselves too many individual mistakes,” the coach summed up.
With regard to the squad, Özbek once again made it clear that the team needs to be improved in the winter. “We’re already planning for the winter break and it’s clear that there will have to be changes. As a coach, it’s of course bitter if you can’t bring about a change immediately, but it’s another matter if you can’t reach the players. I didn’t put the team together myself, but I came here to be successful and we’re a long way from that at the moment,” explained Özbek.
Before the winter break, TuS Bövinghausen will play against SpVgg Vreden and SV Schermbeck in the league. Until then, Özbek wants his team to “play the remaining games as well as possible” before TuS “regroup” during the winter break.
Casualty list fills up: Four more players injured
Although Dortmund are probably one of the strongest teams in the league, at least on paper, their performances on the pitch have so far fallen far short of expectations. It is important for Özbek to continue to motivate his players.
“I don’t want to say that my predecessor didn’t do a good job, but it was important to restore motivation in the team after the 6-0 defeat against Türkspor. Of course, after a defeat like that, everyone thinks how something like that can happen with so many good names in the squad,” revealed Özbek. “We tried a lot of different things, but apart from the game against Sprockhövel and the second half against Münster, I can’t name a game in which we deserved to win.”
Dortmund’s injury list also filled up after the game against Lotte. Team captain Migel-Max Schmeling was replaced by Phil Britscho shortly before the game due to muscle complaints. During the match, Moritz Brüggemann, Umut Yildiz and Yanni Regäsel had to leave the pitch injured. In addition to other injuries, midfielder Nico Thier, “a very important player”, has also been out for several weeks
