Is it time for VfL Bochum’s Philipp Hofmann to take a break? Our experts discuss this after the 3:1 defeat in the VfL talk “Anne Castroper”.
The striker question is more present than ever after the 3:1 defeat against TSG Hoffenheim. Philipp Hofmann was once again in the starting eleven. Once again, the VfL Bochum striker failed to score a goal – as he has done throughout the current Bundesliga season. Is now the right time for him to take a break?
“Hofmann is becoming less and less dangerous from game to game at the moment. He hasn’t scored in two or three games. Maybe it’s time for a creative break,” says Günther Pohl in the new episode of “Anne Castroper – the VfL talk show from WAZ and Radio Bochum”. WAZ reporter Markus Rensinghoff agrees with him: “At least Hofmann no longer has any arguments in his favor and Thomas Letsch no longer has any arguments for continuing to hold on to Hofmann.”
Schlotterbeck returns
The VfL Bochum experts are also concerned about the defense. Bochum had to do without Keven Schlotterbeck due to a yellow card suspension. As a result, Bernardo moved inside and Maximilian Wittek to left-back. Hoffenheim also had to cope with the absence of central defender Kevin Akpoguma due to his yellow card suspension. However, Rensinghoff believes that the Sinsheimers managed to compensate for this better than VfL.
A ray of hope: Schlotterbeck will be ready for action again in the upcoming home game against Union Berlin on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). The team can benefit from this. “It’s amazing how quickly he has developed into a mainstay,” says Rensinghoff.
