After a gala performance – Preußen Münster celebrate promotion to Bundesliga 2

Double promotion perfect! SC Preußen Münster and SSV Ulm 1846 have celebrated their double promotion from the Regionalliga to Bundesliga 2.

Huge jubilation in Münster! The eagle bearers defeated Unterhaching 2:0 and, like champions SSV Ulm 1846, have marched through from the regional league to the 2nd Bundesliga within two years. And deservedly so.

Preußen Münster, spurred on by the crowd, started like a fire engine and got off to a dream start at Hammer Straße. Sebastian Mrowca picked up a corner kick, which Marc Lorenz headed flat towards the first post. A Haching player was initially able to clear the ball before it landed back to Mrowca in the six-yard box: he took off and scored – 1:0 (4′) Münster!

Just three minutes later, the next jubilation in the Preußen-Stadion: Münster’s direct rivals for promotion, Jahn Regensburg, conceded 1-0 against Saarbrücken. The Prussians would have been second in the table at this point.

However, the SCP had to do their own homework first. The visitors from Bavaria got stronger, but Münster struck again after a good quarter of an hour.

The starting point was a positioning error by Markus Schwabl, who failed to keep an eye on Lorenz from a Malik Batmaz cross from the right. But the way Lorenz (16) then volleyed the ball into the net from seven meters out was truly jaw-dropping

Simon Scherder (29) and Batmaz (31) could have extended the Prussian lead significantly before the break. However, the 2:0 lead at the break was enough to secure victory.

In the second half, Maximilian Schulze Niehues saved a penalty from Patrick Hobsch shortly after the restart. SCP swung the victory home and into the 2nd Bundesliga. It was a return to the German lower division after 33 (!) years.
