On Thursday evening, Benjamin Girth made his first appearance in the MSV jersey. He scored two goals in the process. This is what coach Ziegner says about the striker’s performance.
It took just 13 minutes. Benjamin Girth celebrated his debut in the red Zebra jersey on Thursday evening in MSV Duisburg’s Niederrheinpokal first round match. After missing a double chance a minute earlier, the new Duisburg striker scored on Niclas Stierlin’s assist in the 58th minute of the match to make it 6-0 in the interim in MSV’s 8-0 win. Ten minutes later, he even made it 7-0 on a pass from Gordon Wild.
“It’s great, especially for him, that he was able to score on his first appearance,” said Duisburg coach Torsten Ziegner, pleased with the newcomer’s brace. “It’s good for a player like that, it will give him confidence. Strikers are measured by goals. He measures himself by that as well. “
The native of Magdeburg had unsigned at the Wedau on Wednesday after his contract was terminated at Eintracht Braunschweig. He completed his first unit under Ziegner on the same day. MSV managing director for sport Ralf Heskamp had explained that only the departure of Rudolf Ndualu had made the transfer possible.
Ziegner was not yet able to answer whether the 74-time third league player (31 goals) will play again next Monday in the home match against VfB Oldenburg. In Braunschweig, the 30-year-old was only a substitute.
Ziegner: “He hasn’t played for a while. He needs a few more days to be at 100 per cent. But I’m glad that we’ve found another alternative to be even more unpredictable in the offensive, to possibly be able to react to one situation or another.”
Sounds like a place in the squad for the upcoming home game at least.
