After Bosnjak’s double strike, Essen club takes the lead and dreams of the Oberliga

ESC Rellinghausen is the leader of the Landesliga Group 2 in the Lower Rhine region, at least until Sunday. ESC defeated PSV Wesel-Lackhausen 4-2.

100 spectators came to the “Krausen Bäumchen” on Friday evening to watch the Landesliga duel between ESC Rellinghausen and PSV Wesel-Lackhausen. The hosts ultimately prevailed 4-2 and can celebrate taking the lead in the table for the first time this season.

Luka Bosnjak (2), Tristan Richter, and Can Funke scored the goals for the Essen club. Zinedine Cicinho Funfack and Denys Ovsiannikov were successful for the visitors from Wesel.

“At the end of the day, it was a deserved victory. We were simply more active. I don’t think Wesel had a single shot on goal in the first half. We also moved the ball around well. Then we came out of the locker room and let up. Promptly, we conceded a goal on a lucky shot on Friday night. But we came back and took a 2-1 lead. Shortly afterwards, the opponents played us well and scored the 2-2. But we had the morale and didn’t let ourselves down. Luka Bosnjak then scored from 16 meters into the corner and made it 4-2 with a really good free kick. I’m a little annoyed about the two goals we conceded – especially against one of the worst attacking teams in the league. That does bother me,“ Behnke told Forecasting. And what does the ESC coach have to say about the top spot? His answer: ”(laughs) Yes, we’re top of the table for the first time this season. And of course that’s great. We’ve been close several times and now we’re two points ahead of VfB Bottrop. And the schedule we’ve had recently has been tough.“

The dream of the Oberliga Niederrhein is definitely alive on Rellinghauser Straße. Even if Behnke is trying to put the brakes on the euphoria, at least a little. Behnke: ”It’s all a lot of fun at the moment. But nothing has happened yet. Bottrop will also end its losing streak. Scherpenberg has strong individual players and will also stay in the race. And Budberg has the best team in my opinion. Now we’ll enjoy this until Tuesday and then we’ll focus on the next game in Lintfort.”
