After BVB – Next team can make the final round, curious lockstep in the west

Borussia Dortmund are already in the final round of the German U19 championship, Schalke and Leverkusen are still in contention. In the southwest, a decision is imminent.

If any further proof was needed of Borussia Dortmund U19’s prominent position this season, Mike Tullberg’s team provided it at the weekend. BVB’s youngsters shot down MSV Duisburg 4:0.

First place in the Bundesliga West season has long been confirmed, with Schalke and Leverkusen battling it out for second place, which also entitles them to take part in the final tournament for the German championship.

Curious: At the weekend, both third-placed Gelsenkirchen (0:3 against Viktoria Köln) and second-placed Leverkusen (0:1 against Wuppertaler SV) suffered surprising defeats against underdogs. WSV, for example, are still clearly second-last after their defeat.

So it remains exciting in the west, where two starting places are up for grabs. The other two will be played out in the South/South-West and the North/North-East divisions. A decision is pending in the south-west

U19-Bundesliga South/Southwest

Because league leaders TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are not showing any weakness. The most recent win was 4:0 against FC Sandhausen, which once again cemented TSG’s lead in the table.

Their closest rivals FC Ingolstadt followed suit with a 1-0 win at FC Bayern Munich, but were only able to maintain the gap at nine points instead of closing the gap.

Hoffenheim are now in the driving seat. With three matchdays to go, they are just one point away from clinching the South/South-West championship and qualifying for the final round of the German championship.

U19 Bundesliga North/Northeast

League leaders Hertha BSC have made an important statement in the North/Northeast division. Last weekend saw the top match against second-placed VfL Wolfsburg. Hertha claimed a 2:0 victory.

Instead of trailing the Wolves by one point in the event of a defeat, Hertha are now five points ahead of the Lower Saxons at the top of the table. With three matchdays to go, two more wins will be enough to clinch the championship and the final round on their own.
