It was only announced this afternoon that Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Sven Kreyer are going their separate ways. Now his new club has been confirmed – and they call him the “king transfer”
Last season, Germania Ratingen narrowly missed out on promotion to the Regionalliga West – partly due to Sportfreunde Baumberg and SpVg Schonnebeck not applying for a license. Now the team of new coach Christian Dorda has made another attempt with a prominent new addition
Sven Kreyer will be on the hunt for goals for Ratingen over the next two seasons. It was only announced this afternoon that the 33-year-old was terminating his contract with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen early, and now his new employer has already been confirmed.
“I’m really looking forward to my new club, I’m highly motivated and I want to make my contribution to the team’s success,” the former RWO captain emphasized in a press release.
With his experience in particular, he should be a great help to Ratingen. Trained at Fortuna Düsseldorf and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, he played at top level in Bochum, Essen, at Viktoria from Cologne and most recently for four years in Oberhausen. In addition to 297 games in the fourth-tier Regionalliga West, which has existed in this form since 2012 and in which he scored 124 goals, he also played 52 times in the previous league (nine goals), 19 times in the 3rd division (one goal) and even eleven times in the 2nd Bundesliga (one goal). He also played four games in the DFB Cup
I now have the opportunity to reorient myself professionally, to play ambitiously in a beautiful stadium and all this virtually on my doorstep.
Sven Kreyer
“I’ve been in very good talks for some time, initially with Frank Zilles (sporting director, editor’s note) and Christian Dorda, and later also with Jens Stieghorst and Michael Schneider. I now have the opportunity to reorient myself professionally, to play ambitiously in a beautiful stadium and all of this virtually on my doorstep, as I have been living in Ratingen for some time now,” said the veteran, explaining his reasons.
Chairman Jens Stieghorst was equally enthusiastic: “We really wanted Sven to join us as a leading player. Now it has finally worked out, we are convinced that he will strengthen us both athletically and personally and look forward to the coming years.” The 2nd chairman Michael Schneider added that Kreyer is “certainly a royal transfer that everyone is very much looking forward to. “
