Dynamo Dresden are in danger of losing out on promotion to the 3rd division. A bitter home defeat against 1. FC Saarbrücken. The crisis continues.
Dynamo Dresden have had a turbulent few days. After the club squandered a big lead at the top, there were death threats against Dynamo captain Stefan Kutschke, among others.
SGD coach Markus Anfang then left it up to him to decide whether he wanted to play in the home match against 1. FC Saarbrücken. Before the match, Anfang emphasized to “MagentaSport”: “Stefan wants to lead by example up front – as he has done throughout the season.” There was applause from the crowd when the line-up was read out.
There was little applause for the rest of the game, as Dresden’s crisis worsened after the 3-1 (0-1) defeat. They were the clear favorites in the current season, having been promoted in the winter. Now they are a hunter who has forgotten his weapons.
After the defeat against Saarbrücken, they are already six points off first place. If SSV Ulm win in Halle this evening, Ulm would also be five points clear. Third-placed Preußen Münster are one point ahead of Dynamo, who have only won two of their last ten matches.
It was straight down to business against Saarbrücken, who had played the DFB Cup semi-final against 1. FC Kaiserslautern during the week (0:2). The visitors then took the first big chance to take the lead through Tim Civeja after half an hour.

At the other end, Ahmet Arslan missed the equalizer and the home side went into the dressing room with the score at 0-1. The second shock for Dresden came immediately after the changeover, as Simon Stehle added another for Saarbrücken – the goal was preceded by a bad mistake from Paul Will.
And things got even worse for the hosts as Stehle added his second goal ten minutes later, the final decision. And Dresden? At least they didn’t give up and made it 3-1 through substitute Manuel Schäffler, but they were unable to do more than tie the scores.
After the heavy home defeat, there will now be discussions about the future of Anfang in Dresden. Dynamo will continue on Sunday (April 14, 7:30 p.m.) at SC Freiburg II, while Saarbrücken play SV Sandhausen on Saturday (April 13, 4:30 p.m.)
