After debut in the professional squad – defensive talent extends until 2026

During Borussia Dortmund’s 4-2 win over Union Berlin, Guille Bueno made his first appearance in Edin Terzic’s squad. Now the next highlight followed with the contract extension.

Borussia Dortmund II got off to a good start in the 3rd division and is sixth in the table after ten match days. Guille Bueno has played a key role in this so far. The full-back came off the bench at half-time on the first matchday against Preußen Münster (0:0) and subsequently played over 90 minutes in eight consecutive games.

The Spaniard was then absent from the U23s last weekend – but only because he was called up to the professional squad for the first time ever by coach Edin Terzic in the 4-2 win over Union Berlin. Even though Bueno has not yet been called up, it shows that the 21-year-old’s development is on the up. In the summer, he was already allowed to complete large parts of the preparation with the professionals.

It was not until the 2021/22 season that the left-back from the youth of the traditional Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna (now relegated to the third-tier Primera Federación) moved to BVB. As an 18-year-old, he played exclusively for the U23s and made 13 appearances in his first professional season. By the end of the season, he was in the starting eleven seven times in a row.

BVB wants to “continue positive development”.

This was followed by 23 games in his second year, with back and knee problems forcing him to sit out in the interim. This season, however, Bueno is probably in his best shape yet.

This has not gone unnoticed by those responsible. Accordingly, the contract with the left-footed player, which expired in the summer, has now been extended early until 2026. “Guille is extremely hardworking and has worked hard to earn his place in the first eleven,” Ingo Preuß, sporting director of the U23, praised the Spaniard. “We are looking forward to continuing the positive development together.”

By the way, Bueno’s footballing talent runs in the family – his twin brother Hugo is also a professional and plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers. Like his brother, Hugo Bueno is a left-back. He has already put his skills to the test 26 times in the English Premier League and once for the Spanish U21 national team.
