Third division club Rot-Weiss Essen lost 1-0 at Viktoria Köln. Ron Berlinski didn’t mince his words and tried to find solutions.
He ploughed tirelessly, but to no avail. Ron Berlinski was hardly put in the limelight during Rot-Weiss Essen’s away game against Viktoria Köln. Either the play was too imprecise or the Essen team generally made the wrong decisions in their forward play.
So RWE could not complain about their seventh defeat of the season – the promoted team deservedly lost 0:1 (0:0) at Sportpark Höhenberg.
In the interview afterwards, the Essen striker was annoyed about the lack of penetrating power in the offensive, but did not reproach his team-mates:
“I work for the team. Of course, it’s a shame for me that so many balls don’t go forward in the end. Maybe we should just put our heads together and develop a plan on how to get the strikers more involved in general. It’s not just luck that’s missing, but also determination in the final third, the last pass. We have to force the luck. That is the key to success. “
The 28-year-old did not have a proper explanation for the performance at Viktoria. Before the game, Berlinski still had a good feeling: “We actually had a good plan and also a good training week. During the 90 minutes, the implementation was simply missing. There are two different faces, how we train and how we play. We have a super level in training, but in the end something is missing on the pitch. I have no idea what it is. “
I am very emotional myself and I understand the fans 100 per cent. Our performance has contributed to that. We could maybe do with a little kick up the backside like that.
Ron Berlinski.
The centre-forward showed understanding for the fact that the fans from Essen who had travelled with him voiced their displeasure during the second half. Berlinski explained: “I am very emotional myself and understand the fans 100 per cent. Our performance contributed to that. Maybe we could do with a little kick up the backside. Now we have to work through the game, clench our cheeks and get three points against Dortmund.”
Next Sunday (19 February, 2 p.m.), Borussia Dortmund II is the guest at Hafenstraße. With a win, the team could restore calm in the RWE fan camp. It is now up to the players to show the appropriate reaction to the weak game in Cologne.
