After derby victory against VfL – Onofrietti expected to arrive by Monday

FC Schalke 04’s U23 team is on the right track. However, coach Jakob Fimpel said after the victory against VfL Bochum II that the team still needs reinforcements.

FC Schalke 04’s U23 team continues its winning streak. Thanks to a 3-2 (1-1) win against VfL Bochum’s U21 team, coach Jakob Fimpel’s team has already moved up to fifth place in the Regionalliga West table. With three wins in a row, the Royal Blues’ young players are naturally feeling even more confident. They already have eleven points to their credit after six games. The miners did not let themselves be rattled by falling behind twice against VfL. “The victory was well deserved. We made it unnecessarily difficult for ourselves,” said coach Jakob Fimpel after the game. “But overall, we had the game under control and then deservedly scored the goals.”

He was particularly pleased that his team worked hard until the end and did not let up even after taking a 3-2 lead. “It was an U23 duel. And in games where it’s not about cleverness, ruthlessness or the atmosphere, it’s important for us to be the better team. And we were.”

After the game, the U23 team celebrated their victory in the local derby with their eleven fans with the usual “derby winners” chants. “Many of the boys were at the stadium last week and saw what was going on,” explained Fimpel. So now the U23 team has also beaten VfL Bochum.

Nevertheless, his team still needs reinforcements, said Fimpel. “Basically, we still have a small squad. We already included Pierre (Michel Lasooga, ed.) in the squad against Bochum and are still playing without a 20-man squad. I do think that we could do with some more reinforcements,” said Fimpel, referring to the small squad. There is still time until Monday. He did not want to confirm whether the player they are looking for is Italian Giancluca Onofrietti. “I’ve known him since the U14 or U15. We’ve played against him a lot,” Fimpel said about the player. When asked if he was an interesting player for the U23s, he replied: “Definitely.”

S04 is expected to present the former Dortmund player as a new signing on Monday.
