The U19s of Rot-Weiss Essen are waiting for their first three points after three games in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga West. Coach Suat Tokat wants to change that against Bonn.
Rot-Weiss Essen’s youngsters are still without a treble in the current season of the U19 Bundesliga West. After a 1-1 draw in the opening match against Gladbach, the team led by head coach Suat Tokat lost the following two away matches against FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund with 0:5 and 0:4 respectively. On the upcoming fourth matchday, the young Essen players finally want to get their first three points against the youth of Bonner SC.
“Our opening fixture list was really brutal, you have to be honest about that. We started at home against Gladbach, followed by two away games at Schalke and Dortmund. I don’t think it gets much worse than that. Nonetheless, we will keep going and will start the training week highly focused on getting our first win of the season against Bonn,” Tokat said in reference to the upcoming away game.
Bonn SC’s upcoming opponents won their first two games of the season against Gladbach and Oberhausen, both 2-1. The match against FC Schalke 04 on matchday three had to be cancelled due to too many illnesses in the Königsblau squad. Nevertheless, Bonn currently occupies fifth place in the table with 6 points and a goal difference of 4:2.
“We just have to get better “
Despite the unfortunate start to the new season, Essen head coach Tokat is satisfied with the training performance of his charges. According to the coach, however, the team cannot bring the performance from training onto the court every week. In the game against Bonn, they will work on their finishing efficiency.
We simply have to be better in the final third. We have to pay better attention to our positional play and whoever the opponent may be, we just have to play through our entire game better.

As a result, Tokat took his team to task ahead of the upcoming matchday: “We just have to do better in the final third. We have to pay better attention to our positional play and whoever the opponent may be, we just have to play through our entire game better.”
Against Dortmund, the team from Essen still radiated little danger in front of goal. In the upcoming match against Bonn, RWE wants to create more goal-scoring opportunities. “Not everything is working out as we would like it to. Unfortunately, we are not as efficient in attack as Dortmund, for example, who have two chances out of three in the first half. That’s a brutal rate and unfortunately it’s a problem for us. We need one or two more chances and we will continue to work on that in order to be able to go into the important actions with more conviction,” explained Tokat with regard to the match plan for the coming match day.
