Rot-Weiss Essen has responded to criticism from fans: The new RWE home jersey will be changed.
On Friday, July 12, 2024, Rot-Weiss Essen released the home jersey for the new 2024/2025 season. Tastes are known to differ, but there was one thing that irritated most fans: Unlike the main sponsor ifm, the RWE logo was also in the primary color red, true to the motto “All Red”, which led to a lot of criticism.Even a petition was started.
After Forecasting had already reported that the club wanted to examine further steps, the result now follows: the third division club has actually adapted the jersey. The club logo now stands out in the traditional red and white. Both on the players’ workwear and the fan jerseys. This was announced by Essen on Friday. The star, which stands for the 1955 German championship, will now also be visible on the shirts.
“The dialog is very important to us, we take the opinions and comments of our fans very seriously and want to take everyone with us. If a jersey or the color scheme of the logo meets with such opposition, we have to admit that we made the wrong decision,” says Alexander Rang, Chief Marketing and Sales Officer at RWE, emphasizing: ”We are a club run by our members and are proud of our roots and our tradition. Only together and united will we achieve our goals. That is why it was a real concern of ours to examine all options intensively and seriously in the short term following the criticism. We are all the more pleased that we were able to find a solution that meets all of our expectations. “
RWE jersey available for pre-order from July 22
With the exception of the logo, the new RWE jersey met with widespread approval from the fans. The club had described the design as follows: “The kit, which was designed together with kit supplier JAKO and the red and white creative agency Altobelli, follows the motto ‘All Red’. The basic design consists of the RWE red, which is overlaid with geometric shapes in Bordeaux red. A vertical stripe, also in red, interrupts this look. The RWE logo, placed atypically in the middle of the jersey, also fits in with the overall look.”
The home jersey will be available for pre-order in the RWE online store from July 22 at a price of 84.95 euros (children’s sizes 69.95 euros) and will be shipped at the end of August as already communicated
