The 2023/2024 season could hardly start worse for MSV Duisburg. Only one point from two games, including two seriously injured players. Another addition is to follow.
MSV Duisburg will have to do without their wingers Niklas Kölle and Thomas Pledl for several months. Both offensive players suffered shoulder injuries – Kölle in Freiburg II (1:1), Pledl against 1860 Munich (0:3) – and will miss a long time. They will not be available to MSV for weeks, if not months.
As “Sky” now reports, the Duisburg club is now looking for new players. The object of desire: Tim Köther from 1. FC Heidenheim. The winger does not play in the Bundesliga and could gain match practice with the third division club.
The 22-year-old winger only played one game in Heidenheim’s promotion season and did not take to the pitch for FCH on Matchday 1 of the 1st Bundesliga season. However, Köther still has a contract at Heidenheim until the summer of 2025, so a move to Duisburg would probably only be a loan deal.
Köther moved from Fortuna Düsseldorf to Heidenheim in the summer of 2022. He only played one game for the Fortuna professionals and was a member of the regional league reserve team of the NRW state capital – and very successfully at that.
Nimble and strong on the dribble, that’s how Köther operated in the 4th division and can boast strong numbers: 53 games, seven goals and 14 assists. Not only Heidenheim, but also many other second-division clubs were interested in Köther in the summer of 2022. But after a messed-up season without competitive practice, the move to MSV Duisburg in the 3rd Division should do him a lot of good. According to Sky, Duisburg and Heidenheim have already reached an agreement, now Köther just has to decide whether he wants to move from a Bundesliga squad to a third league one.
