DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg will meet their direct rivals Blau-Gelb Überruhr in a make-up game. Also playing: Kevin Zamkiewicz.
On 23 August, Kevin Zamkiewicz suffered a serious knee injury. In the Lower Rhine Cup match of the district league team DJK Sportfreunde Katernberg against the regional league team and defending champions SV Straelen (final score 2:4 n.V.), the Katernberg goal scorer had to be substituted already in the first half. “My kneecap popped out. It was a long time that I missed. That was my first major knee injury. Luckily it was only the kneecap because it could have been worse. I have been training with the team again for three weeks,” reports Zamkiewicz.
Nevertheless, the full-blooded striker had to take two months off in competitive matches and was out for a long time due to injury. But even without the top scorer, the team showed strong performances and established itself at the top. The 33-year-old was delighted: “The boys really did a world-class job and won some games with confidence. It was fun to watch the team. We’re playing a good season and mustn’t lose focus now so that we can stay close to the leaders SG Schönebeck.”
Zamkiewicz celebrated his comeback exactly eight weeks after his knee injury in the 5-2 away win against Ratingen II. Last matchday, he was back in the starting eleven for the first time and promptly scored a goal at Werden-Heidhausen. In the end, however, it was a 1-2 defeat and Katernberg slipped down to fourth place. “Games like that can, but shouldn’t happen. We didn’t get our horsepower on the pitch. We have to put that behind us now,” emphasised the goal scorer.
We are all looking forward to the game and want to show that we are rightly up there.

On Thursday (10 November, 7.15 p.m.), coach Sascha Fischer’s team will have the chance to make amends against Blau-Gelb Überruhr. Both teams have 28 points after twelve games and could close the gap to SG Schönebeck to four points with a win. That is also the goal of Zamkiewicz and Co.: “We are all looking forward to the game and want to show that we are rightly among the top teams.
For that to succeed, Katernberg will need a Kevin Zamkiewicz in top form. He scored eight goals in four league games and last season he was top scorer in the Bezirksliga with 32 goals. He played his best season in the jersey of VfB Frohnhausen. In 2017/18, he shot the club to promotion to the Landesliga with 37 goals.
