After Lübeck game – Dabrowski thanks staff, fans and team

Only 3:3 in Lübeck, but Christoph Dabrowski was still in a positive mood. The Rot-Weiss Essen coach looks back on the season.

The 2023/24 third division season officially came to an end for Rot-Weiss Essen on Saturday afternoon. RWE traveled to Lohmühle to face relegated VfB Lübeck at the end of the season and wanted to end the series on a positive note with a three-pointer.

However, nothing came of it: RWE were held to a 3-3 draw in Lübeck and had Leonardo Vonic to thank for preventing a third defeat in a row.

Essen were too careless defensively, made many simple mistakes in their build-up play and slipped to seventh place as a result of the draw. At least the offense worked, thanks to Vonic. Head coach Christoph Dabrowski, who had changed his team in five positions compared to the home defeat against 1860 Munich (0:1), had a similar view. “We didn’t show the same intensity against the ball. We were comfortable in possession and scored three goals,” Dabrowski emphasized in an interview with “Magenta” Sport.

For the soccer coach, the positives nevertheless outweighed the negatives when looking back on the third division season: “In the end, we collected a good result with 59 points. “

One of the capos then called me. I also thanked them again for the support and the mega support. A big thank you to all my employees, my staff and also to the team. It’s been a great pleasure to accompany them throughout the season.

After the final whistle, the coaching team, squad and all those responsible were with the 3,000 fans who had traveled with them for several minutes. Dabrowski praised the great support: “One of the captains then called me. I also thanked them again for the support and the mega support. A big thank you to all my employees, my staff and also to the team. It has been a great pleasure to accompany them throughout the season. We can look forward to the next steps.”

Even though the season in the 3rd division is over for RWE, a major highlight still awaits the Red & Whites in another competition: Next Saturday (May 25, 3:45 p.m.), Dabrowski’s eleven will face rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Lower Rhine Cup final at Hafenstraße.

It will be a rematch of last year’s final, when the favorites from Essen prevailed 2:0 and qualified for the DFB Cup. “It’s now about sharpening our senses again, also in training. We have to be fully dynamic and fresh. We can hold a trophy in our hands, collect a bonus and then put together a good squad,” said Dabrowski looking ahead.
