Rot-Weiss Essen has had no luck with injuries in the current winter preparations. Two players are out for weeks.
Rot-Weiss Essen’s 25-man squad is shrinking these days. Ahead of the test match against FSV Zwickau, the second player has been affected and Christoph Dabrowski will not be available for several weeks.
On Friday afternoon (January 12), the RWE coach commented on the injury list ahead of Saturday’s friendly against FSV Zwickau: “With Sandro Plechaty, who unfortunately tore an inner ligament, one player will be out for longer. Ekin Celebi, who fell on his shoulder and we still have to wait for the diagnosis, Lucas Brumme, who is getting a break after intensive training sessions, and Aaron Manu, who was out with flu at the self-catering house and is not yet fully fit, will also be out against Zwickau. The same applies to Fabian Rüth, who will have to train for a while longer. Andreas Wiegel and Felix Götze, who have been ill recently, are back.”
It is now clear: Celebi suffered a shoulder injury in an unfortunate fall and will have to undergo an operation. The 23-year-old full-back will therefore not be available to Rot-Weiss Essen for a longer period of time.
The 2023/2024 plague season thus continues for Celebi. The former Hannover man, who joined RWE from 96 in the summer of 2023, has yet to play a single competitive match for RWE. He has been suffering from groin problems since his first sessions at Hafenstrasse.
Celebi underwent surgery and was on the road to recovery and wanted to attack in the remainder of the season. The former junior international also played 60 minutes against 1. FC Köln (4:4) – without any complaints.
And now this: Celebi has to have another operation – this time not on his groin, but on his shoulder. Essen coach Dabrowski now has “only” 20 outfield players and three goalkeepers at his disposal. The U19 talents Ahmed Etri for the right side of defense and Mats Brune for central midfield are still available. There shouldn’t be another long-term absence
