Preußen Münster has been fined heavily for the fireworks display before the cup match against FC Bayern. The club’s fan community wants to help.
The DFB Cup match against FC Bayern Munich at the end of September was a highlight for Preußen Münster despite a 4:0 defeat, but has costly repercussions for the third division soccer club.
After a large fireworks display in the fan block before kick-off, the DFB sentenced the eagle bearers to pay almost 107,000 euros a few days ago – the club has never been fined so heavily before.
In order to cushion the sanction from the club’s point of view, the Preußen Münster fan community intends to initiate several campaigns in future. The umbrella organization of Preußen fans is also collecting donations, all of which will go to the club.
“We want to support SC Preußen Münster financially in order to mitigate the negative consequences of the DFB penalty,” reads a statement on the fan community’s website. “We hope that many friends, fans and supporters will join us in the coming days and weeks and support the various campaigns. We will provide detailed information on the planned actions as soon as possible!”
In recent years, the relationship between fan groups and club management has improved significantly, the alliance continues. “The DFB penalty imposed after the cup match against FC Bayern Munich carries the risk of driving a wedge between the club and fans.” The fan community therefore wanted to “send a signal that fans, the fan scene and the club will not allow themselves to be divided”.
According to the DFB ruling, SCP fans had set off at least 15 firework batteries and at least 20 other pyrotechnic objects during the fireworks display before the cup match. The match could only be kicked off after a short delay.
After the final whistle, coach Sascha Hildmann had a mixed view of the action. “When the fans start a pyro show: it looks good to outsiders, but it’s expensive for us. “
