The crisis at KFC Uerdingen continues to grow. With another slip-up in Schonnebeck and now 13 points behind the top of the table, even the last hopes of promotion have been dashed.
It was something like the last straw for KFC Uerdingen. With a win at SpVg Schonnebeck, the Krefeld side wanted to get back on track and perhaps catch up with SSVg Velbert.
But nothing came of it, because despite a 2:0 lead, it was only enough for a 2:2 draw in the end due to a weak second half.
The Blue and Reds started the game well, leading by two goals after half an hour and had opportunities to extend their lead.
“It was once again a game with two sides from us,” summed up a disappointed Björn Joppe at the post-match press conference. “We had the game under control, had to score the 3:0 and then made life difficult for ourselves again in the second half with far too much small in midfield, standing still after losing the ball and not accepting tackles. Schonnebeck were then simply more handy and we couldn’t come up with anything. “
Before the season, it was said that the great KFC Uerdingen must be promoted and that was also stated as a goal. But just because we are KFC Uerdingen, we don’t go somewhere and easily win five or six to nil.

The new setback means that the gap to leaders SSVg Velbert is now a whopping 13 points. Even though KFC have played one game less – promotion is now absolutely unrealistic. The coach knows that too. “Before the season, it was said that the great KFC Uerdingen must be promoted and that was also stated as the goal. But just because we are KFC Uerdingen, we don’t go somewhere and easily win five or six to nil. All the other players in the Oberliga can also play football and then results like that happen. “
In retrospect, Joppe, who is still waiting for his first win in three games as KFC head coach, is quite critical of the target. “If we hadn’t declared such a high target before the season, then we probably wouldn’t be sitting here now having so many crisis talks with the fans. I can understand that the fans are angry, but I have to be honest and say that we also have to remain a bit humble.”
Things continue for KFC Uerdingen next Friday with a home match against FSV Duisburg, who are bottom of the table. Even though three points are an absolute must there, regardless of the situation, Joppe didn’t really want to think about the upcoming match just yet. “We have to sit down together now, look completely at ourselves, set new goals and then hopefully get our first three points this year on Friday. “
