The two Oberliga bottom teams FC Kray and FSV Duisburg celebrated emotional victories on Sunday. A RevierSport article could also have played a part in this.
First of all, a small apology to Cronenberger SC and SC St. Tönis. FC Kray and FSV Duisburg have probably rarely acted with such a fired-up team in the current season.
And this was probably also due to a RevierSport article last Monday, in which both clubs were already suggested to plan for the Landesliga.
Now both clubs celebrated remarkable successes – despite RS’s swansong: FC Kray beat SC St. Tönis 2-1 with a goal by Eunseok Ho in the 86th minute, FSV Duisburg won 2-0 at Cronenberger SC, although the bottom team was shorthanded from the 24th minute on.
The Essen team even had the article hanging in the dressing room before the game: “Of course you use something like that,” Essen’s sporting director and interim coach Rudi Zedi confirmed to this editorial team. “It encourages the boys to show it to the people.”
Just how relieved the Krayers were about the success was evident in the goal celebrations: Zedi was even one of the first congratulators to sprint up to the scorer. “It was a result of the work of the last two weeks. This victory was really deserved.”
FSV Duisburg had a similar view. “It’s not nice when you hear that,” admitted FSV coach Engin Kum. “Just after the article I said to my players that they should play for their honour.” The report was not hanging in the dressing room, “but of course it was a topic in training all week. Of course, something like that is also slightly humiliating, but also an incentive for everyone. “
In the meantime, the objective has not changed. FSV Duisburg is not planning for the Landesliga. Kum: “We don’t want to be relegated with all our might. We will fight for that.”
It will be interesting to see what both teams follow up this sign of life: FC Kray will face the two top teams KFC Uerdingen and SSVg Velbert. FSV Duisburg welcomes SV Sonsbeck.
