The personnel problems at SC Preußen Münster continue. After Simon Scherder tore his cruciate ligament on Wednesday, the second division club announced another injury on Thursday.
SC Preußen Münster has to cope with another personnel setback.
Just one day after club icon Simon Scherder tore his cruciate ligament in team training, the second division club announced another serious injury. Midfielder Marvin Schulz will be out for “several weeks” with a torn lateral ligament in his knee, as the Eagles announced on Thursday. An MRI scan confirmed the bitter news.
“This week has been marked by several setbacks. That’s difficult to process at the moment and presents us with major challenges for the upcoming games,” said Ole Kittner, managing director of sports, strategy, and communications, as quoted in the club’s own media. “But it’s precisely in moments like these that you see what this club is all about: solidarity, trust, and passion. We will take on the challenge posed by these absences together as a team and as a club.”
Schulz’s absence is all the more bitter as he is an absolute fixture in coach Alexander Ende’s midfield diamond and has made eight starts in the league (one goal, two assists), with Münster already plagued by injury misfortune. In addition to Schulz and Scherder, Luca Bolay, Marcel Benger, Etienne Amenyido, Marco Meyerhöfer, Antonio Tikvic, Oscar Vilhelmsson, and Joshua Mees are also unavailable due to injury, while Paul Jaeckel is suspended after receiving a yellow card.

“Of course, these absences hurt, because these are players and personalities who play key roles in our team. There’s no point beating around the bush,” Kittner continues, emphasizing: “But we have a squad that we trust completely. In addition, our talented U23 players will get the chance to take on responsibility and show what they can do. Difficult phases often give rise to new opportunities – and that’s exactly how we want to approach the situation now.“
However, the club does not see a pattern behind the injuries: ”Every injury has individual causes; external influences played a role in the cases of Simon and Marvin, for example,“ explains Kittner, adding: ”We hope that this unfortunate series will end soon. We know that setbacks are part of the sport – and that we are strongest when we remain united in these moments. At the same time, we will of course carefully analyze all areas in order to minimize our injury rate in the long term.”
Kittner is already looking ahead to the upcoming game against bottom-of-the-table 1. FC Magdeburg (Sunday, October 26, 1:30 p.m.): “We have often proven in the past that we can draw strength from difficult situations. We are now taking this spirit with us onto the pitch – as a team, as a club, as Preußen Münster.”
