Second division club Preußen Münster will have to do without regular goalkeeper Johannes Schenk in upcoming league games after he was sent off in the 0-0 draw against Schalke 04.
55 minutes had been played in last Saturday’s second division match between Preußen Münster and FC Schalke 04 (0-0) when Münster goalkeeper Johannes Schenk stormed out of his box and, as the last man, tackled S04 striker Moussa Sylla.
Referee Florian Lechner saw an emergency brake and, after a brief pause, showed Schenk the red card. Despite being a man down for a long time, SCP fought hard to earn a deserved point against the second-placed team from Gelsenkirchen, who struggled with an extra man.
Nevertheless, the sending-off logically has consequences for coach Alexander Ende’s team. As the German Football Association (DFB) sports court ruled on Monday, the young goalkeeper was suspended for two league games for “unsportsmanlike behavior.”
The 22-year-old will therefore miss next Sunday’s derby against promoted Arminia Bielefeld and the home game against Hannover 96 five days later. Morten Behrens, who already replaced Schenk after his red card against Schalke, will stand between the posts for him.

And the regular number two was right on the ball against the Royal Blues and played a big part in keeping the score at 0-0. Despite this being only his second second division appearance for SCP, Münster’s substitute keeper made an impression with his carefree and confident demeanor, as if he were between the posts week after week.
“It wasn’t bad for a cold start,” he said of his performance. The goalkeeper, who came up through the HSV youth system, added: “It’s the lot of a number two that you have to be ready to play at any time. When the time comes, you have to be there.”
SCP coach Ende shouldn’t have any major concerns if he has to rely on his substitute goalkeeper in the next two league games.
