The MSV has extended the contract with its coach for the Women’s Bundesliga.
Thomas Gerstner has achieved relegation with the women of MSV Duisburg in the Women’s Bundesliga. As a reward, there was now a new contract for the 56-year-old.
Dario Mlodoch, head of the women’s licensing department, emphasises: “After an exciting season in which we were able to successfully secure our relegation, it was of great importance to us to first do everything we could to continue working with Thomas. His expertise, his passion for the club and his ability to form a strong team convinced us that he was the right choice.”
Added Mlodoch: “With the successful agreement of a contract extension, we are confident that Thomas will help us achieve our goals in the coming season. His experience, tactical understanding and leadership qualities will help us develop the team and succeed on the pitch.”
Whereas it won’t be easier to keep the women’s Bundesliga, because with RB Leipzig or 1. FC Nürnberg, women’s teams from big clubs are coming in.
“I am looking forward to another Bundesliga season with MSV. We know that we are counted by everyone as a sure relegation candidate again and I love challenges,” said a delighted Gerstner, who already coached the women of our Spielverein from 2018 to 2021 and then from April 2023 onwards, securing class preservation a total of four times. “I like the club and the people here. Some of the girls I’ve known for several years now, others for a few months and still others I’m getting to know anew. We want to get the maximum out of it together!”
While Gerstner is staying, there will be some changes in his coaching team. The current co-coach Robert Augustin is leaving MSV at his own request after a total of five years. It has not yet been decided who will be his successor.
