After trial training – decision likely made for former Bochum player Ordets

In terms of central defense, former Bochum player Ivan Ordets recently made an appearance at league rivals Arminia Bielefeld. The second division club tested the 33-year-old center back in team training. “I would like to continue playing in the Bundesliga,” Ordets said in the summer, but he seems to have overestimated his chances. And there is no future for the Ukrainian in Bielefeld either, according to a report in “kicker.” The DSC officials do not see the center back as the hoped-for reinforcement for the defense, according to the report.

Because Ordets’ contract with VfL Bochum expired last summer, the center back would have been available on a free transfer. Now he has to keep looking.

Ordets began his professional career at the traditional club Shakhtar Donetsk, where he was initially loaned out several times to the Ukrainian club Illichivets Mariupol in order to gain playing experience in the Ukrainian top flight.

Points Table

In March 2013, he made his first appearance in the Ukrainian Premjer-Liha. After several loan spells, Ordets became a regular member of the Shakhtar squad from the 2014/15 season onwards, winning the Ukrainian championship three times in a row with the club between 2017 and 2019. He also won three cup titles (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18) and the Ukrainian Super Cup in 2017. However, in 2018/19, he had to undergo Achilles tendon surgery. In the 2019/20 season, he moved to Russia to play for Dynamo Moscow. In 2022, Ordets then moved on to German Bundesliga newcomers VfL Bochum. There, he became an important factor in defense. Until his departure last summer, Ordets played in 82 competitive games, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Internationally, Ivan Ordets came through the Ukrainian youth national teams and made his debut for the senior national team in 2014, scoring his first international goal in a friendly against Niger. He has made twelve appearances for his country to date.
