In the 2nd Bundesliga, Hansa Rostock is in acute danger of relegation. Now the sports director has to go.
With seven games without a win in a row, Hansa Rostock is in acute danger of relegation. Now the last but one in the 2nd Bundesliga has drawn personnel consequences and released sports director Martin Pieckenhagen. This was announced by the club on Easter Monday.
“After ongoing assessment and analysis of the current season, it became clear that the development of the sporting area has unfortunately remained significantly below expectations and can not keep pace with the other areas of action of the club,” the chairman of the supervisory board Rainer Lemmer is quoted.
The supervisory board had made the decision unanimously. Pieckenhagen’s contract still runs until 2023. The 51-year-old had been working as sports director of the “Kogge” since January 2019. This season, the Rostock team has already changed coaches twice – after Jens Härtel and Patrick Glöckner, Alois Schwartz took over at the end of March. His signing did not have the hoped-for effect, and the first two games under Schwartz were lost.
“We felt compelled to react and are planning the new season – regardless of league affiliation – with a new personnel orientation and the goal of implementing the necessary structures and thus permanently increasing the likelihood of sporting success,” Lemmer said in his statement.
The sporting management will be taken over “until further notice” by CEO Robert Marien and squad planner Kevin Meinhardt. It is also up to Marien to find a new sports director “in a timely manner and in close cooperation with the Supervisory Board. “
