After the draw against Fortuna Köln, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen cannot get beyond a 0-0 draw against Rot Weiss Ahlen. RevierSport spoke to RWO captain Sven Kreyer after the game.
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen are in fifth place after a 0-0 draw against Rot Weiss Ahlen on matchday 8 of the Regionalliga West. It was the seventh unbeaten league match in a row, but the anger over the missed victory prevailed.
As on the previous matchday against Fortuna Köln, RWO played 0-0, but in Ahlen the three points were as good as planned. Captain Sven Kreyer summed up the feeling after the game against RWA: “If you don’t score a goal, you can’t win a game. On the positive side, we kept a clean sheet at the back again and allowed very little. Up front, we had our chances, but like last time against Fortuna Cologne, we didn’t manage to convert a good chance into a goal.”
For the fourth match in a row, the Oberhausen side kept their clean sheet and did not concede a goal – the result of a compact defence. But a goal didn’t want to fall: “We tried to set up the opponent and had our chances. The goal didn’t want to come and we became a bit passive towards the end of the first half. Then we came into the second half better and even had several chances in injury time to put the lucky punch in,” Kreyer summed up.
The centre forward, who already has four goals to his name, sees no reason to panic and question everything: “We shouldn’t always hope for the lucky punch now. We just have to score again at some point, but it’s all good and there are just days like against Ahlen. The team will keep going and I think we are on a good path anyway. “
We haven’t dealt with Bocholt yet. But it will be a home game, which is why we’re looking to get another three.
Sven Kreyer
The Kleeblätter are still in the upper region of the table and are in contact with the top, even though 1. FC Düren and 1. FC Bocholt were able to pass RWO. 15 points after eight games are a solid start and the gap to league leader Fortuna Köln is four points.
The Oberhausen side can make amends on the coming matchday when they host their table neighbours Bocholt (30 September, 2 p.m.). “We haven’t dealt with Bocholt yet. But it will be a home game, so we’ll be looking to get another three points,” said Kreyer, looking ahead optimistically.
