Will Waldhof Mannheim turn things around against MSV and RWE, or will the crisis at the club deepen in the 3rd division?
SV Waldhof Mannheim is lagging far behind its ambitions in the current season in the 3rd division. It should be going up again in the 3rd division, but after 13 match days, the reality is relegation battle.
The Ruhr area clubs have intervened or will still intervene. Because one of the last three defeats was against BVB II (1:3). In addition, they have also lost to Arminia Bielefeld and Unterhaching in recent weeks.
And now there are the two matches against MSV Duisburg and at Rot-Weiss Essen. Mannheim’s coach Rüdiger Rehm, who has been in office since July 1 and has only been able to score 0.92 points on average, is also under pressure ahead of the Ruhr area double-header.
Waldhof Mannheim president Bernd Beetz told the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung: “The current situation is dramatic and we are, of course, anything but satisfied with the performances. However, our trust in our sporting management remains unquestioned. We now have to score points quickly to get out of the bottom three.”
Speaking against the last MSV and at RWE. It won’t be easy, looking at the Mannheimers’ previous results, who are hardly getting a foot on the ground, especially away from home. Seven games, one win. Not enough for their own standards.
At home, the team has had mixed results: two wins, two draws and two defeats in six games. They now need their third home win against MSV to keep the flames from burning too brightly.
And how can they turn things around? Rehm explained on MagentaSport after the 3-0 defeat in Unterhaching. “I told the guys that we’re going through an incredible phase right now. We’re not rewarding ourselves, we’re punishing ourselves. It’s making us sick as a team. We have to keep eating the dirt until we turn the corner. There’s no way we can keep our heads down.”
