Ahead of the top match in Dortmund – Schmidt has a lot of respect for ASC

Westfalia Rhynern is close behind the promotion spots in the Oberliga Westfalen. Now they face an away game against their undefeated rivals in the league.

SV Westfalia Rhynern is right on target in the Oberliga Westfalen with 16 points from eight games. Now they face a top match against the still undefeated ASC Dortmund.

It will be a difficult task for coach David Schmidt and his team, as ASC is unbeaten in 17 games across two seasons, which commands a lot of respect from the coach. Nevertheless, Rhynern has already beaten ASC Dortmund once, in the second round of the Westfalen Cup. Rhynern won that game 2-1.

They have only suffered one defeat in the league so far, and Westfalia Rhynern have the best attack with 21 goals – even though they have played one game less than some of their rivals. The reward: fourth place, one place behind their upcoming opponents. Wattenscheid 09 and SV Lippstadt 08, who occupy the two promotion spots, are also still within reach. Rhynern has won three of its last four games in the Oberliga, in addition to a 6-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the district cup. Schmidt was correspondingly confident in his conversation with Forecasting before the game in Aplerbeck and spoke about …

It’s generally difficult to figure us out. We have a lot of position changes, we’re very flexible in attack. That’s what makes us so strong in front of the opponent’s goal.

David Schmidt

… the upcoming away game: “It’s always difficult to play at ASC Dortmund. They are unbeaten in 17 games, so we will do everything we can not to lose the game there. Of course, we’d like to get three points, but we also know what we’re up against. Not losing there would be great.“

… the victory in the Westphalia Cup against ASC: ”I do think it’s a slight advantage. But it has to be said that it was early in the season, when ASC’s automatisms weren’t quite in place yet. We’ve looked at how they’ve performed in recent games. It was different than when they played us.“

… Westfalia’s strong attack: ”Of course, we have Wladimir Wagner, who has already scored a few goals. But I think it’s generally difficult to figure us out. We change positions a lot and are very flexible in attack. That’s what makes us so strong in front of the opponent’s goal.”

Schmidt’s team will also want to demonstrate their attacking strength against ASC Dortmund. The game will take place on Saturday, with kick-off at the Urlaubsguru Waldstadion at 2:30 p.m.
