Ahlen fail from the spot, Engelmann’s goal debut

In the 2nd round of the Westfalenpokal there was the first surprise on Wednesday.

Four games of the 2nd round in the Westfalenpokal have already been played. ASC Dortmund, Spielverein Westfalia Soest, SC Wiedenbrück and SV Lippstadt had already been determined as round of 16 participants.

On Wednesday, six more teams wanted to qualify for the round of the last 16. The first match was between Spvgg. Erkenschwick, promoted from the Oberliga, and regional league team Rot Weiss Ahlen. And the first surprise came in the form of a 4:1 penalty shoot-out win.

The hosts got off to the better start and took an early lead through goal scorer Stefan Oerterer. The 1:0 lead lasted until the break, after which Ahlen equalised with a penalty kick. That was the result after 90 minutes and since there is no extra time in the Westfalenpokal, the penalty shoot-out had to decide the winner. Here everything went quickly, because Erkenschwick scored three times, Ahlen failed three times in a row from the spot, so SpVgg were jubilant about their entry into the last 16.

In the Oberliga duel between Westfalia Rhynern and SpVgg Vreden, the visitors seemed to make short work of Rhynern. Anes Dziho gave Breden the lead after ten minutes. After the 0:3 shortly after the break, the game was supposedly over.

But Rhynern did not give up and came back to 2:3 through Tim Neumann and Marcel Pietryga. Elmar Skrijelj made the madness perfect and equalised after 75 minutes – 3:3. That’s how it stayed – here too, as in Erkenschwick, the immediate penalty shoot-out was the result. Vreden held their nerve from the spot, Rhynern’s chase to catch up was not rewarded.

In SV Rödinghausen’s 2-0 win at Landesliga side TSV Oerlinghausen, Simon Engelmann got back on the scoresheet for the first time since his return to Rödinghausen. Before that, he missed two games in the Regionalliga, in the other four league games and in the first round of the Westfalenpokal, the personified scorer went empty-handed.

The three third-division teams Arminia Bielefeld, Preußen Münster and SC Verl also reached the round of 16.

Four more matches are scheduled for Thursday, the last two games are in the course of September – see the overview below. There is also one match left from the first round, on 13 September RSV Meinerzhagen will face SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl.
