Alaa Bakir has left MSV Duisburg after three years following relegation. The attacking player is moving abroad
The next of many departures from MSV Duisburg has found a new club. Alaa Bakir is moving abroad and has signed a two-year contract with FC Emmen. The 23-year-old wants to give his career new impetus at the Dutch second division club
“With Alaa, we are bringing in a technically very accomplished player,” says Emmen’s technical director Nico Haak. “He’s creative, has good dribbling skills and is strong one-on-one. He can also play in all positions up front.”
Born in Münster and with Jordanian roots, he has spent the past three years at MSV. Prior to that, he came through Borussia Dortmund’s youth teams and celebrated the championship in the Regionalliga West with the U23s.
However, the hoped-for next step with the move to Duisburg did not materialize. In three turbulent seasons, Bakir was repeatedly thwarted by injuries and probably also showed fluctuating performances as a result. He played 68 competitive matches for the Zebras, scoring nine goals and making ten assists in the white and blue jersey.
After relegation from the Eredivisie a year ago, his new club Emmen are about to embark on their second season in the second-tier Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Bakir should help FCE to have a say in promotion.
With Luca Unbehaun (most recently SC Verl), the club from the south-east of the Netherlands has already signed a German goalkeeper who Bakir knows from the BVB youth system and the 3rd division. Julius Kade (Wiesbaden), Jalen Hawkins (Mannheim) and Torben Rhein (FC Bayern II) are other German players who moved to Emmen this summer. New coach Robin Peters also comes from Germany and was most recently U19 coach at RB Leipzig.
