As expected, Alemannia Aachen secured their place in the round of 16 of the Mittelrhein Cup with a convincing 7-0 victory. Fortuna Cologne also advanced to the next round.
Alemannia Aachen is in the round of 16 of the Mittelrhein Cup. The 2023/24 cup winner and last year’s finalist confidently completed its task on Tuesday evening against regional league team SC Fortuna Bonn, winning 7-0 (5-0) in front of almost 2,000 spectators at Bonn’s Sportpark Nord.
Benedetto Muzzicato must have been satisfied with his team’s performance after demanding that his players approach the game against their lower-league opponents with “maximum seriousness” before the second-round match. “Anyone who doesn’t do that will very quickly have a problem with me,” warned the Alemannia coach.
Emanuel Elekwa, Pierre Nadjombe, Bentley Baxter Bahn, Sasa Strujic, and hat-trick hero Valmir Sulejmani scored for the Kaiserstädter, who took their foot off the gas in the second half. Aachen’s next game is on Saturday (September 27, 2 p.m.) in the 3rd division away at bottom-of-the-table 1. FC Schweinfurt. Fortuna Cologne also did not disappoint. The second-placed team in the Regionalliga West secured a clear 8-1 victory against A-League team SV Scherpenseel-Grotenrath, thereby securing their ticket to the next round of the cup. Robin Afamefuna (2), Timo Bornemann (2), Nicolas Westerhoff (2), Adrian Stanilewicz, and Salim Hadouchi. The district league team was at least able to celebrate a consolation goal. At the end of the English week, the South City team will play in the Regionalliga West at SV Rödinghausen on Saturday (September 27, 2 p.m.).
The remaining matches of the second round of the Mittelrhein Cup will be played on Wednesday (September 24). Among others, defending champions Viktoria Cologne will face Mittelrheinliga club VfL Vichttal. Bonner SC, the second regional league team in the competition, will be guests at FC Wegberg-Beeck.
