All hands on deck, Stöhr warns against Kleve based on his ETB experience

KFC Uerdingen wants to continue its run and create the perfect basis for Tuesday’s catch-up game against the league leaders.

On Friday, league leaders Ratingen 04/19 and KFC Uerdingen can take the lead in the Oberliga Niederrhein. Ratingen faces promoted Holzheimer SG, and third-placed Uerdingen plays at bottom-of-the-table 1. FC Kleve (8 p.m.).

After their victory in the top match against SpVg Schonnebeck, the Krefeld team now wants to capitalize on those three points in Kleve. However, Kleve has recovered somewhat, recently earning four points from two games.

So KFC has been warned. But coach Julian Stöhr’s team can also go into the game full of confidence. They have won five of their last six games, with only Dingden sharing the points in a 0-0 draw.

Ahead of the 90 minutes in Kleve, Stöhr emphasized: “We know what to expect. A difficult pitch, a lot of fighting, it will be all about the second balls. I want to see clear soccer.“

And with regard to the offense, Stöhr also has clear ideas, which is why there were certain focal points in training: ”This week, we trained things like numerical superiority on the wings. We have rarely played that well so far. It’s also about shooting more often from distance. So far, we haven’t scored a single goal outside the penalty area.”

In the end, one goal could be enough, as Kleve is not currently known for scoring many goals itself. No team has scored fewer goals. And KFC has managed to keep three clean sheets in its last three games.

But Stöhr is wary, remembering his time as ETB coach. Last season, they faced Kleve on the fourth-to-last matchday and also had to play at Bresserberg. In the end, the game ended 0-0, which meant they had to say goodbye to the promotion battle.

Stöhr emphasizes: “The situation was similar back then, and I learned something from it. You can’t underestimate Kleve. They score points against the teams at the top every now and then.”

For example, against St. Tönis or Schonnebeck in the current round. There should be nothing to gain against KFC, then Uerdingen would have created perfect conditions for next Tuesday (7:30 p.m.). That’s when the top match against the leaders from Ratingen will be rescheduled.
