Alleged SFCV letter causes a stir ahead of general meeting

A letter from the fan club association is causing unrest ahead of the Schalke general meeting on Saturday. The background.

With the 2-0 home win over Jahn Regensburg on Sunday, Schalke 04 clinched the victory they had been desperately seeking. This at least gives the Royal Blues a little breathing space at the start of the international break.

Off the pitch, however, the coming days could be turbulent. On Saturday (from 11:04 a.m.), the second division soccer club is inviting members to a general meeting. Explosive decisions are on the agenda. Among other things, elections to the supervisory board are on the agenda and details of the funding cooperative will be announced. Several proposals for amendments to the statutes will also be considered.

A few days earlier, a letter had caused unrest in the Schalker Fanclub-Verband (SFCV), in which 60,000 fan club members are organized in around 800 fan clubs. A place on the supervisory board is also reserved for the association; currently occupied by Michael Riedmüller.

This letter calls on as many fan club members as possible to come to the general meeting. From the P7 parking lot, where the fan club buses park, there will be a fan march to the arena.

But is that really the case? According to information obtained by this editorial team, the letter is the sole initiative of a member of the four-person SFCV board. Further background information on the controversial letter and statements by association spokeswoman Melanie Illburger on the subject can be read HERE at the colleagues of the WAZ.
