Now it’s official: the date of the Niederrheinpokal quarter-final between KFC Uerdingen and Rot-Weiss Essen has been set.

Since Tuesday evening (February 6), it has been clear that Sportfreunde Baumberg and Rot-Weiß Oberhausen will play one of the two semi-finals in the 2023/2024 Niederrheinpokal.

Now the opponent of Germania Ratingen 04/19 is still being sought. And that will be either KFC Uerdingen or defending champions Rot-Weiss Essen. Until now, the date of this quarter-final was unknown.

Now it is certain when the big game will take place. After KFC Uerdingen had reviewed the documents submitted, the Lower Rhine Football Association scheduled the quarter-final of the Lower Rhine Cup: The game between the Oberliga team Uerdingen and the third division team Essen will be played on Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in the Grotenburg Stadium.

“This is a big game we are really looking forward to. Until then, however, we are only focusing on the Oberliga. With positive results behind us, we then want to annoy Rot-Weiss Essen together with our fans,” Marcus John, sports director and coach of KFC Uerdingen, told Forecasting.

In this hotly contested western duel, 10,900 fans will most likely be there at the Grotenburg Stadium. The KFC has now been given the green light to play in front of this crowd. Until now, only 2,500 spectators were allowed in the Grotenburg Stadium.

“All construction measures are geared towards the full capacity of 10,900 spectators being available when matches resume in 2024 – that is, for the game against SC St. Tönis,” according to a press release from KFC Uerdingen on Tuesday (February 6). On February 24, in just two and a half weeks, the first home game of the remaining round in the Lower Rhine Oberliga is scheduled. Before that, Uerdingen will start the second half of the season with an away game at Sportfreunde Hamborn on February 18.
