ARD presenter Plasberg says goodbye with Schalke comparison

ARD presenter Frank Plasberg said goodbye to his TV audience on Friday evening with a surprising comparison. FC Schalke 04 played a role in it.

ARD presenter Frank Plasberg said goodbye to his TV viewers on Friday evening in the TV show “2022- das Quiz”. At the end, he surprised the audience with an unusual comparison.

Because when the participants Barbara Schöneberger, Günther Jauch, Florian Silbereisen and Jan-Josef Liefers surprised Plasberg at the end of the show with a short film about his career as a television presenter, he chose a comparison from football for his appearance in the late 1980s.

Schöneberger commented on a photo from WDR’s “Aktuelle Stunde” from 1987, which Plasberg hosted at the time, with the words: “Amazing what you’ve still become despite all this”. Plasberg can be seen with a rather well-behaved hairstyle with an upper-lip moustache, as was so common at the time. Plasberg countered with a rather unusual comparison for him. “I looked like a substitute player from Schalke, yes,” said Plasberg. Was that meant in a rather disrespectful way? Or did Plasberg want to come out late as a supporter of the Königsblauen?

Probably the former. Plasberg, who was born in Remscheid, had always emphasised that he had nothing to do with football. And the presenter, who grew up in Wermelskirchen, has never admitted to having a favourite club.

In any case, the programme “2022 – the Quiz” was not entirely without football. At the beginning of the programme, Plasberg showed the photo of the German national team before the opening match of the World Cup in Qatar, during which the team covered its mouth in protest against the human rights conditions in the host country. “That’s the photo of the year for me,” Plasberg said. Afterwards, however, the guests made fun of the gesture with a posed shot in which they laughed at the Germans’ poor performance.

The 65-year-old Plasberg hosted the programme for the last time on ARD. He had already handed over his talk show “Hart aber fair” to his successor Louis Klamroth a month ago after 20 years. This brings us full circle. Klamroth is known as a child actor from the film “Das Wunder von Bern”. There he played alongside his “father” Peter Lohmeyer. And he has indeed been a Schalke fan since his earliest childhood.
