Arminia Bielefeld breathe a sigh of relief in the 3rd division basement. The win against MSV Duisburg not only increases the gap between them and the relegation places, but also their self-confidence.
The worry lines on the faces of all those who support Arminia Bielefeld have diminished following the home win against MSV Duisburg. The lead over the first relegation place in the 3rd division, which Halle occupies, is still only four points. But the manner of the performance against MSV in particular gives cause for hope.
Coach Mitch Kniat was delighted with one of the best performances of the season, especially in the first half: “I think everything went right. We played courageously out from the back and hit few long balls. Whenever our goalkeeper had the ball, we had four or five options. It was an all-round successful weekend.”
Leon Schneider, scorer of the 1:0 goal and leader of the Bielefeld defense, also shared this impression. He also remembered the fan reception before the game: “The first half was the best we’ve shown here at home this season. And of course, I’ve never experienced that before the game either. Everyone on the bus had goosebumps and seemed to take it into the game.”
The support of the fans, especially before the game, seems to have made an impression. Around 90 minutes before kick-off, hundreds of fans waited in front of the stadium for the Arminia bus and provided loud support with pyrotechnics.
Reception gave Schreck & Co. “pure goosebumps”
“That was insane. I’ve never seen anything like it. It was pure goosebumps. We were really fired up. We’ve often played well this season, but we’ve rarely been rewarded. That’s been the shortcoming this season. But when we’re efficient, we win the games,” said Sam Schreck, describing the reception and the match.
The 32nd matchday of the 3rd division is already just around the corner. FC Ingolstadt will host Michel Kniat’s team (Friday, April 5, 7 p.m.).
“We’re not celebrating much. It’s a short week. We’ll take the momentum with us, prepare well and want to get the next three points. It’s always easier to play with confidence. It’s in our hands. If we win the games, we don’t have to look at others,” said Schneider, looking ahead to the clash with the tenth-placed team in the league
