Yet another fruitless RWE away trip. Red-White Essen has been waiting for six games for a win on the road.
Rot-Weiss Essen scored four goals against Energie Cottbus from five chances. A week later against Erzgebirge Aue, everything was different. RWE had more chances, but broke its nose.
Ahmet Arslan took the biscuit seven minutes before the end. After great work by Lucas Brumme, he only had to tuck the ball in from three meters out, but he shot wide.
After the game, he was extremely annoyed and did not spare himself any criticism. With regard to his big chance, he emphasized: “There’s no question about it, I have to do that. I can only apologize for that. Every one of the fans scores, so they were also annoyed that we missed so many opportunities.”
Nevertheless, the supporters also encouraged the players, as Arslan revealed. And that despite a first half that the playmaker from Essen, who scored a great goal in the 93rd minute to get back into the game, could not let stand. “For the first half, we have to apologize to everyone who came with us. The second half was what we wanted to show. We create chances, then it’s just bad not to take them. If I take mine, we all know we’ll take another point.”

Arslan’s conclusion: “Based on the chances, the point was totally deserved, even though the first half was really bad.” Marvin Stefaniak, who scored the 2-0 for Aue, saw the game a little differently, he saw a deserved win. “We played a great game in the first half. We also added to it, but Essen also had chances. From my point of view, it wasn’t a lucky win. It was important and cool that we scored the 2-0, that was the problem recently. Finally, we have a home win again.”
While Aue celebrated, Essen was left lamenting their next trip without a win. After the victory in Hannover, there have now been no away wins in six games. On top of that, the bad news is that Lucas Brumme, a very important player who was shown a second yellow card at the end of the game, will be unavailable for the upcoming home game against SV Sandhausen (Saturday, November 23, 2:00 p.m.).
A very busy day for RWE in the Ore Mountains.
