ASC 09 Dortmund is having a very good season in the Oberliga Westfalen. Last year’s third-place finishers are currently back in third place.
Five wins, one draw, two defeats: things are going very well for ASC 09 Dortmund. Last weekend, coach Marco Stiepermann’s team won 3-0 at Spielvereinigung Vreden.
“There’s not much to analyze. I think it’s enough to say that our goalkeeper Joshua Mroß didn’t get a single shot on goal. We had everything under control from the first to the last minute. It was a sparkling performance,” praised Samir Habibovic, sports director of the ASC.
Aplerbeck started the season with seven points, followed by two defeats in Wattenscheid (0-2) and against Rheine (1-2). After that, the coach’s choice of words changed, but so did the team’s performance on the pitch.
“The coach made a few changes after those defeats. We now play much more aggressively and passionately. We still have a lot of possession, but we’ve added the basics. The team has simply understood that it’s not enough to just play good football to be successful. You have to put in the effort. And I have to say that against Wattenscheid and Rheine, three halves were really bad. But since the second half against Rheine, we’ve been playing the way we want to,” says Habibovic.
Currently, ASC 09 Dortmund, who only had to let Sportfreunde Lotte and local rivals Türkspor Dortmund get ahead of them last season, are back in third place. VfL Bochum’s U21 team and Westfalia Rhynern are in first and second place in the Westphalia Oberliga. But the top group is very close.
Habibovic: “It doesn’t make much sense to set goals and slogans now. We’ll just see where we are in the winter. Then we can say more. Now we’re just focusing on the next game and opponent Concordia Wiemelhausen.” Bochum, second from last in the table, are guests in Dortmund-Aplerbeck on Sunday, October 13, 3 p.m.
