Schalke 04 once again travelled with hundreds of fans to the training camp in Austria. Not all residents like the S04 stickers left behind.
A trip to the summer training camp in Mittersill, Austria – it’s been a part of the experience for some FC Schalke 04 fans for many years.
For the seventh time, the Königsblauen are currently preparing for the upcoming season in the Oberpinzgau region. Once again, they were accompanied by a crowd of supporters. The opening training session in Austria last Saturday was attended by around 250 Schalkers.
The inhabitants of the region are accustomed to seeing holidaymakers in blue and white fan clothing – but some of them are obviously annoyed by their behaviour. Many Schalke stickers are said to have been placed in public places in Mittersill and the surrounding area, for example on traffic signs.
This is sometimes considered “annoying”, reports the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF) in its online edition. After all, the stickers have to be removed again in painstaking detail. Occasionally, S04 supporters are also said to have used spray paint. In addition, the municipal fountain is said to have foamed last Friday. It remains to be seen whether fans from the Ruhr area are behind this case.
Schalke: Programme for accompanying fans
In order to ensure that the Schalke fans who travel with the team also get their money’s worth during the preparation camp away from the training sessions and test matches, the club is offering a variety of programmes.
These include meetings with those in charge. On Wednesday evening, Peter Knäbel and Andre Hechelmann will answer the fans’ questions. In the morning, a walking tour was organised for interested supporters. On Friday, there will also be the “Blue-White Night”, where fans will also meet the team.
Schalke is still preparing for the second league season until next Sunday (16 July) in Mittersill. After the 0:2 against FC Copenhagen, a second test match is scheduled for Saturday: It’s against Poland’s Gornik Zabrze with Lukas Podolski.
