Fans were injured when a choreo screen collapsed during a Twente Enschede test. Twente have a friendship with Schalke.
It was a tragic day for the fans of Dutch soccer. Before the first division club Twente Enschede’s test match against RKVV Stevo in Geesteren in the Netherlands, a screen attached to a crane, part of a choreo construction, fell on several fans standing behind the goal. Some were seriously injured.
“Everyone is conscious and has received medical treatment. A rescue helicopter was called as a precaution,” Twente reported. German second division club FC Schalke 04 promptly posted on social media: “Good luck and a speedy recovery to everyone involved!” wished S04. Schalke and Twente have a fan friendship, and the two clubs regularly meet in preparation, soon again on July 24 in Marl.
The incident occurred as both teams entered the pitch. Several videos on Platform X show how the players immediately ran to the injured players and administered first aid. Two rescue helicopters were deployed. The match was not even kicked off after the drama.
“We are in close contact with the fans who organized the demonstration, with STEVO and the authorities. Together we are investigating how this incident could have happened. Our full attention is now focused on the injured fans and others directly involved. We wish everyone a lot of strength,” Twente continued.
According to the local fire department, ten people were injured in the accident and several people were taken to hospital. “There were no fatalities and no life-threatening injuries,” read a statement from X.
